Maska Mode | Go Big or Go Home!

When it comes to fashion, I have a go-big-or-go-home approach. I love to put together outfits that turn heads when walking on the streets. Specially as a petite fashionista, if you wear ordinary pieces, you can easily get lost into the crowd and if you know me that’s the last thing I want :)

That’s why I’m always on the hunt for unique stores (which are a rare gem in Vancouver by the way) and different ways to style my existing items to create looks that stand out. It’s easy to put together a nice look from Zara and everyone can do that. Just buy their latest items and copy their editorials and you look great since they do the matching for you. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I believe that’s great for those who are not as adventurous when it comes to fashion, need guidance when it comes to style and are OK with taking the easy path. But I’m a bit disappointed of all the influencers wearing the exact same looks, whether it’s a off-the-shoulder light blue cotton dress in the summer or the pink suite that is currently flooding our feeds on Instagram.

As a fashion influencer, I believe I have the responsibility to create outfits that are not just from the latest collections of big retailers such as Zara, H&M, Forever 21, and you know the rest. I think I have the responsibility to be creative, inspire my audience and provide guidance on the best places to shop, how to put together their existing items, and ultimately to be more adventurous when it comes to fashion.

That being said, in Vancouver, one of my favorite fashion boutique which carry one of a kind pieces curated from Italy is Maska Mode. When you step into their store, you feel like you entered heaven, well a fashion heaven! You see breathtaking hues, eccentric silhouettes, and adventurous patterns that attract you to the racks like a moth to a flame. You feel inspired just being at their store since every item is like a piece of art. If you read the About Us section of their site it says that Maska is for those who think of their bodies as a canvas and clothing as an art form and Maska provides you with the palette. This description is exactly what you feel like when at one of their store.

With the beginning of Spring and inspired by the latest collections at the recent fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London and New York, on my last visit to Maska Mode, I put together a look inspired by a few of the dominating trends that you’ll see frequenting the streets this coming season. One of my favorite trends for Spring/Summer 2018 is matching high-saturated hues. The SS18 runways of many designers, including Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacob were also a true testament of how chic this trend is. Also, 80s fashion in back and I cannot be happier since it’s the decade of bold colours and silhouettes. The oversized silhouettes, bold colour blocking, masculine cuts, and chunky earring are a few of the trends I’ve incorporated into my look.
